When the “Grow Christ’s Church Deep and  Wide” consultation began, leaders hoped that it would result in an evangelism movement. When it ended, they sensed that the seeds for that movement had been planted. The two-year grass roots-based evangelism emphasis was adopted by the recent 218th General Assembly in San Jose, CA, and seeks to grow the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in four areas: membership, discipleship, servanthood and diversity. The Rev. Eric Hoey, director of evangelism and church growth for the PC(USA), addressed the consultation on the last morning, speaking on 2 Timothy 1.6, which includes the phrase, “I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God.”  The group embraced several “next steps,” including continuing the conversation on a “wiki” [http://e.vangelize.us] — a web site on which anyone may add or edit material — created by Neal Locke, a student at Princeton Theological Seminary. http://e.vangelize.us/index.php?title=Main_Page

Green Leaf Press, Inc. is a non-profit Christian corporation with a main purpose of encouraging people to think. To help you and others, we sell carefully selected books to help others learn more of the Bible and of matters centrally related to the Christian message. We want to encourage Christians to think of themselves as teachers and to commit themselves to a continuing study of the Bible and to other readings that are harmonious with the Bible. The work of the kingdom of God is not someone else’s business, it is our business! Please take a close look at the books which we offer. We want to introduce people to books that will challenge and inform them, and that they might not know of if it were not for this ministry. Would one of them make a good Christmas present to someone you know? Could it be of help in a small group study? Our website address is: http://www.gogreenleaf.com

CHRISTIAN FORMATION INFORMATION

New for 11-20-08!  Book Talk and Celebration: Clergy Couple Publish Two Texts on Ministerial Health and  Spirituality.  Contact: Bruce Epperly, 290-8759, Lancaster Theological Seminary, bepperly@lancasterseminary.edu  Tuesday, December 2, at 4:00 p.m. in the Seminary Refectory, Lancaster Theological Seminary celebrates the publication of two new texts by Lancaster Theological Seminary Professor Bruce Epperly and Rev. Kate Epperly.  These texts are the first two volumes of their trilogy on ministerial spirituality and well-being.  Feed the Fire: Avoiding Clergy Burnout (Pilgrim Press) focuses on ways pastors can remain vital, energetic, and creative in ministry.  Through the sharing of life-transforming, whole person spiritual practices, theological reflection, and personal narratives of their own as well as stories from ministers in Lancaster Theological Seminary's ministerial excellence groups, this book provides whole-person nurture to pastors in every stage of ministry.  The Four Seasons of Ministry: Gathering a Harvest of Righteousness invites pastors to deepen their calling to faithful ministry in every season of ministry from the experience of call and seminary, their first congregational call, mid-career, and retirement.  This text invites pastors to go beyond the day-to-day pressures of ministry to experience a larger perspective, a life-long adventure in companionship with God, their loved ones, and their congregations.  Lancaster Theological Seminary is located at 555 W.
