FIRST USER OF ON-LINE RESOURCES!

The first user of our on-line resources was Rev Dr Jay Wilkins at Trinity! He helped us fine-tune our process!  He ordered a resource from our center by going to the website:

www.donegalpby.com

clicking on Resource Center, searching for a resource and then sending an email to have it mailed!  Thanks Jay!

END OF YEAR SPECIAL!!!

We are having an end of year special and would love to find a good home for a Canon copier!  It is a high end copier, printer, fax machine suitable for a network.  It costs $105 per month, but we would consider a good offer.  You can get more info at:

www.donegalpby.com and clicking on You Asked For It (near bottom left)

MEDICAL MISSION TRIP TO HONDURAS!

In response to your request, we are hosting a Medical Mission Trip to Honduras on June 18 - 25, 2005.  This trip is primarily for those churches who do not have a mission trip organizer in their midst.  You do not have to be a medically trained person to go, but it would be nice to have a nurse and a dentist.  If you want to learn more about this trip, come to the meeting at First Pres Lancaster on January 23rd at 2:00pm.  Mr. Steve Mentzer will answer your questions.  To sign up, send a check for $100 per person to The Presbytery of Donegal.  Include on the memo line, Honduras Mission Trip.  Also, send your 'passport' name, address, phone number and email address to Charlie at: 717.392.4035 or cgross@donegalpby.com.  The trip will be limited to 12 people and the cost is $1000 per person, which includes air fare, lodging, meals, and transportation.  Will need $600 by April 1st and $300 by May 18th.

ISRAEL/PALESTINE EVENT IN LOUISVILLE - FEB 10 - 12, 2005

The Presbyterian Church is exploring ways to assist in bringing peace to the Israel/Palestine area.  As part of that effort, actions were taken at the 216th General Assembly to divest in companies that enable conflict in the region.  We are encouraged to send a representative from our Presbytery to an educational event on these issues.  This event is being held at Louisville from Thursday Feb 10th at 3:00pm till Saturday Feb 12th at 12:30pm.  More information is available on our website at: http://www.donegalpby.com  We would love for someone to attend who has a real interest and knowledge of the situation and who would be able to inform and educate the Presbytery in various ways.  Let us know....

COMING SOON ISSUES!

Issues that are being worked and are coming soon:  Workshop and training on Elder and Deacon extended home communion processes, Beautiful bulletin inserts to interpret our mission, Diversity Camp at Camp Donegal expanded to a full week July 3 -8, survey of your pressing needs (as well as a survey of your gifts, talents, and passions).

MISSIONAL CHURCH CORNER - TEACH TO OBEY RATHER THAN...

According to "Shaped by God's Heart," the third characteristic is teaching to obey rather than to know.  Milfred Minatrea says that many members of churches continue to be reminded what a Christian IS, without gaining clear biblical counsel regarding what a Christian DOES.  "Activist preacher Jim Wallis says, 'In the Bible, faith is not something you possess but rather something you practice.  You have to put it into action or it really doesn't mean anything.  Faith changes things.  It's the energy of transformation, both for individuals and for a society."  Missional churches, according to Minatrea, equip believers, help congregants to "apply Christianity," and teach obedience through the use of various disciplines.  This 2004 book would be great for your library!

ONE GOOD IDEA

Rev Dr C. Pat Hartsock at Central Downingtown started using a very personal and warm letter to visitors which gives them phone numbers for gathering more information about the church and its many programs.  Included with this letter is a "self-addressed stamped postcard" asking the visitor to rate their visit to Central.  Questions are ranked from Excellent, Above Average, Average, Below Average to Poor.  They are:  How was your overall experience of CPC?  How would you rate your worship experience?  How would you rate the music?  How would you rate the message?  How would you rate the quality of Sunday School?  Yes/No questions included: Did you find the people friendly?  Was it easy to find your way around? Will you come again?  They also ask for age range, male/female, married, single, etc, date and zip code.
