MISSIONAL CHURCH CORNER

According to "Shaped by God's Heart, the passion and practices of missional churches," the seventh characteristic is Order Actions According to Purpose!  In the same way that "Purpose Driven" books are being read and studied, the importance of being centered and focused on our God given purpose is critical.  Rev Minatrea says that missional communities know their purpose, check that actions are based on purpose, let go of what does not serve their purpose, and do only what does serve their purpose.  The author challenges us to review our church schedules, budgets, and participation records and do an honest assessment of what is truly important to us.  Do our commitments in time and treasures align with our God given purposes?  Missional churches offer events that are strategic and excellent!  They do not confuse activities with accomplishments.  It might be time very well spent to gather your leadership and do a full scale program assessment!  What should not be done and what should be added according to your purpose?  A Blessed Lent!

ONE GOOD IDEA

Rev. Dr. Victor Wilson shared an idea that is radical, but could pay huge dividends in a large number of ways.  Pastors who take sabbaticals return to their ministries refreshed, recharged, reinvigorated, retooled and ready for new challenges.  It is a stretch for a congregation's budget to enable this type of retooling.  The idea is this:  If we could find a few Honorably Retired pastors who would be approved by the Committee on Ministry to temporarily supply a congregation during a 3 month sabbatical at a very low cost (or just travel money), it could work.  This would help the pastor get a needed sabbatical, help the congregation get a new perspective, and help the church finances.  If this sounds possible and useful, contact Ed Martin, Chair of COM, at: 610.692.9492 or gemed@rcn.com   He and the Committee on Ministry will help connect pastors who would like a sabbatical with those willing to serve in this time period.  Your patience is requested as we work on this process!

If you have a good idea, I'd love to share it in this eNews letter.  Send it to me via: cgross@donegalpby.com  Thank-You Very Much!
