Alternative Giving Brochure and Alternative Gift Market Cards  Each year Presbyterian Disaster Assistance receives requests for alternative Christmas giving ideas and as we have done in years past, PDA has identified areas where additional funds are needed and has provided a realistic estimate of the cost to respond to disaster survivors’ needs.  This information is available online http://www.pcusa.org/pda/tools/alternativegiving.htm or brochures can be ordered by calling PDS (800-524-2612) and requesting item#25412-07-020.  In response to congregations that hold Alternative Gift Markets and also in response to specific requests received at the recent Mission Celebration '07, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is making available pre-printed Alternative Gift cards in varying amounts.   Four different cards with a value of $12.00, $20.00,  $50.00, and $250.00 are available. The subjects for the cards were chosen based on the magnitude of the disaster or ongoing recovery needs. Proceeds from each of the four cards will be put into an account designated for the particular disaster response.  Photos and text of these cards can be found at http://www.pcusa.org/pda/tools/alternativegiftmarketcards.htm.

The initial focus of the cards is for alternative Christmas giving, however, cards are available with wording for gifts in honor of special occasions or gifts in memory of loved ones.  Please consider one of these projects as an opportunity where you can share the gift of God's love. Cards can be ordered by contacting PDA at pda@pcusa.org

The outcomes from the small group conversations at the GAC/MGB meeting are compiled and are available http://www.pcusa.org/mgbconnect/pubs/discussiongroupconversations.pdf   Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  Peace, Angela Lucear, Governing Body Relations, 888.728.7228 x 5428

MISSION INFORMATION

“When man works, man works; when man prays, God works.”  Hans von Staden, who inspired  the creation of Operation World

There is an exciting and unique mission opportunity for you and your young people that I would like to share with you. It is called Mission Centered and it's an intentionally Presbyterian mission experience in Louisville, Kentucky!  Mission Centered is a new offering of the Office of Ministries with Youth in conjunction with Youthworks! - an ecumenical agency (started by a Presbyterian youth worker) that provides short term mission trips for young people.  If you are looking for a mission trip for your junior and/or senior high students, you should check out Mission Centered. It is called Mission "Centered" because part of the time will be spent at The Presbyterian "Center" here in Louisville and learn about what happens at the national and international level of the PC(USA).  If you would like to know more about Mission Centered you can visit the web page at www.pcusa.org/youthministry/missioncentered and if you would like to know more about Youthworks! you can visit their website at www.youthworks.com   Blessings on you and your ministry!

2008 will be a Year of World Mission!  The Council reviewed a proposal brought by the chair of Work and Witness Department and voted to make 2008 a year of World Mission.  We will be exposed to a schedule to hear and see what God is doing around the world.  Also, we will see how we are connected and partnering with God to serve the least of these!  Starting in January!

WEC Link will be offering an exciting breakfast event on Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 8:30 - 10:30 am at our Headquarters at Fort Washington, PA on the topic of Business as Mission (BAM). Our speaker will be Chris Brown who has served in Central Asia since 1993 as the head of a successful consulting firm.  We would like to especially invite those businesspeople who would like to learn about how their skills can be used in new ways to further the Kingdom as well as pastors and missions leaders.   An excellent site about Business as Mission (BAM) can be found at http://www.businessasmissionnetwork.com/.  You will also find a good write-up about the BAM model by New York Times writer, Andy Newman, which features the EC Group International, an Indian company specializing in offshore IT staffing services at http://www.businessasmissionnetwork.com/2007/06/most-admired-kingdom-company-4-ec-group.html  Please RSVP if you wish to come (215.646.2322 ext 101 or weclink@wec-usa.org) Blessings in Christ, David Hall

Seminary Graduate Help!  Greetings. I am writing to ask whether you know of any congregations within your presbytery that could use some temporary, fresh out of seminary help. I graduated from Pittsburgh Seminary in May and became a candidate under care of Carlisle presbytery in September. After checking with my own presbytery's EP and several congregations, I've found that pickings are pretty scarce! I would like to work in a congregational setting during my candidacy year. I've worked in a 220 member congregation as a student assistant in Pittsburgh and this past summer, as an assistant to the chaplain in a Pinnacle Health hospital. I want to work in any/ all aspects of congregational ministry. Thanks for your time.  Blessings and peace,  Meg ShoemanHe is the radiance of God's glory, the stamp of God's very being, and he sustains the universe by his word of power. (Hebrews 1:3a) M.R.N. Shoeman, 2853 Foxianna Road, Middletown, PA 17057, 717.557.1095, mshoeman@pts.edu

Lancaster Theological Seminary invites your congregation to join 30-50 other congregations, primarily in Pennsylvania and Maryland, in participating in our Spring/Lenten Adult Study Series. The theme of this five-week series is “Philippians: Living Joyfully in God’s Presence.” Written by Dr. Bruce Epperly, this study will focus on what it means to experience God working in our lives and how we can awaken to God’s abundant presence through scripture study and spiritual practices. In the context of reflection on the text, take home exercises, and spiritual practices, participants will explore what it means to live with an awareness of God’s presence in the small and large details of their lives.  Bruce Epperly is Director of Continuing Education and Professor of Practical Theology at Lancaster Theological Seminary. The author of twelve books in spirituality, theology, healing, and death and dying, Dr. Epperly is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)  The study includes the following:  1.      Study guide for participants and leaders, 2.      Video introduction to each session, 3.      Introductory and concluding lectures, for those who wish to attend, at Lancaster Theological Seminary.
