To All Associate Pastors:  My name is Sung Lee and I am an Associate Pastor at Lower Providence Presbyterian in Eagleville, PA.  For the past year, I have been working with a planning team and Montreat Conference Center to plan the FIRST EVER conference for Associate Pastors on March 31 – April 3, 2008 at Montreat Conference Center.  As you know, Associate Pastors have a unique ministry that not many have experienced if they have not been an associate pastor.  And pastor conferences are usually created for Solo Pastors or Heads of Staff.  There has been a huge need for a conference that focused on the ministry of Associate Pastors, and we have taken great care, thought, and prayer to plan a conference with the uniqueness of the Associate Pastor in mind.  The conference will be filled with wonderful speakers, dynamic worship, creative down time, spiritual renewal, a lot of fun, and the beauty of Montreat and the Black Mountains of North Carolina.  I have attached a PDF of information about the conference.  If you have any questions, please contact Montreat Conference Center, or email me: slee@lppcmin.org.

The 2008th General Assembly (June 21-28, 2009) is less than six months away.  If you haven’t already start praying now!  I encourage every pastor or session to organize a prayer group or galvanize the groups you already have in your church to pray for our denomination.  Sadly, I have found that it is far, far more common for people to complain about what they don’t like in the PC(USA) than to pray for it.  This should not be so.

I plead with you to organize the people in your congregation who care about the larger church to begin now to bathe the 2008th General Assembly in prayer

CHRISTIAN FORMATION INFORMATION

Register for this course today!  This could be the best continuing education for you this year!  Rather than seeing post-modernism as a threat, many Christians are seeing the emphasis on relationship, experience, pluralism, and change, characteristic of post-modernism, as an opportunity to share the good news in creative and life-transforming ways.  Christianity's faith is mission-oriented and the whole world, as well as the immediate neighborhood, is our mission.  In this spirit, we invite you to participate in a four week seminar on Emerging and Missional Christianity, led by Presbyterian pastor Tony Sundermeier, and UCC pastor and LTS professor and director of continuing education, Bruce Epperly.  Over four weeks in April (4, 11, 18, 25) from 9am till noon, we will reflect on the following themes: forming the vision, preaching the vision, equipping the vision, and living the vision.  The cost of this program is $150, with some scholarship assistance available.  For registration information, please contact Rikki Jones at 717-290-8758 or rjones@lancasterseminary.edu.  For questions, please contact Bruce Epperly at 717-290-8759 or bepperly@lancasterseminary.edu.  To learn more about LTS programs in continuing education, please consult our web site (www.lancasterseminary.edu) under "continuing education."

Lancaster Theological Seminary - Please join us for this Summer's Holy Adventure (June 16-20 and July 7-11).  Over the next month, we will highlight some of the many courses offered in this summer's program.  If you are interested in deepening your understanding of scripture and exploring resources for preaching, we suggest the following courses.

Session One (June 16-20)
Preaching Old Testament Narratives (9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)   Prof. Julia O'Brien
Jesus the Healer, focusing on Mark's Gospel (7:00-8:45 p.m.) Prof. Bruce Epperly
Biblical Spiritual Formation (7:00-8:45 p.m.) Prof. Mona West

Session Two (July 7-11)
Preaching the Gospel of Mark (9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)  Prof. Greg Carey
Preaching Responsibly (7:00-8:45 p.m.) Prof. Donna Allen

For information related to registration and other course offerings consult the seminary web site home page www.lancasterseminary.edu or Rikki Jones at rjones@lancasterseminary.edu.  (Pastors receive 50% tuition scholarship. Scholarship assistance is also available to lay persons.)

ONE GOOD IDEA

Introducing the concept of the mini-saga.  Learned this in a book called, “A Whole New Mind” by Daniel H Pink.  The mini-saga is a story of exactly 50 words. No more, no less.  Here is my SECOND attempt - about the plight of immigrants to Lancaster PA.  We're working ecumenically to help solve this problem - read it and then try your own mini-saga (50 word story - no more, no less)

Winner of a red tape freedom lottery.  Frightened, scared, alone, yet traveling.  Leaving familiar surroundings with no money, no possessions, just sandals.  Coming to America, to Lancaster, PA – refugee no more.  New language, new customs, new signs, new faces – new pressures? Will anyone care?  Yes, the loving Presbytery of Donegal!

Extravagant Blessings!     Charlie

If you have a good idea, I'd love to share it in this eNews letter.  Send it to me via: cwgross@gmail.com   Thank-You Very Much!
