CHURCH TRANSFORMATION STORIES!

Donegal Congregations in Transformation—Good Stories – July 2009

A great story from Cedar Grove! It started a few months ago, maybe February, when that still, small voice spoke to me. It said "Why is Cedar Grove so concerned about whether or not they have a lot of youth? Wouldn't it be better to just do something for youth who need to know the love of Christ?"   The Cross Connection Youth Center has been a powerful voice for Christ in New Holland for many years now. Recently, CCYC moved to a new location across from a low-rent housing unit and hired a new young director, Meredith Dahl. Step one was to connect the Cedar Grove youth and CCYC by attending the center's annual banquet. The pastor and his wife, three youth group leaders, and two of the youth went to the banquet to learn about the mission of "The Cross," as it is known in New Holland, and how it is reaching local youth with the Gospel.
After that event, the youth of Cedar Grove asked what they could do to help there. Meredith said that the center always needs to be cleaned. Since then, the youth have visited twice to vacuum, wash floors, clean bathrooms, and scrub marks from walls.
One of the youth leaders challenged the youth to raise $500 for the center and offered $100 in seed money to help make that happen. The youth held a spaghetti dinner at Cedar Grove on June 14 and raised $400. The youth presented a check to Meredith when they cleaned the center on June 18. More cleaning and events to raise another $100 will be forthcoming.

Send us your own story of transformation!  The Spirit is doing mighty work in our midst!  Celebrate it and share it!  Send stories to the presbytery office.
