The Congregational Ministries Department is partnering with the Parish Resource Center to offer you a Stewardship Workshop on Saturday April 17th from 8:30am - 3:30pm at the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, PA. Save that date and be early to register.  By being one of the first 25 to register from our presbytery, you will receive a $20 scholarship.  This will reduce the cost of the workshop from $45 to $25 (if your church is a member of the Parish Resource Center) or from $55 to $35 (if your church is NOT a member of the Parish Resource Center).  See the website event: http://www.parishresourcecenter.org/lancaster/events.php

 

The Committee on Preparation for Ministry needs someone to take minutes at their meetings. The committee meets on the following Mondays from 12:30-4:40pm at Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster: January 4, February 1, March 8, April 5, May 3, June 7, July 12, August 2, Sept. 13, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, and Dec. 6. Join us Mon., January 11 through Fri., January 22 for our Lenten Fair.  Ash Wednesday is Feb. 17 and Parish Resource Center consultants are already preparing displays, copying handouts and preparing for conversations with our subscribers about preparation and study for Lent and Easter.

            Tracey Marx, PRC Consultant, will host   A Way to Pray: Contemplative Prayer for the Lenten Journey , Fridays in Lent (Feb. 19, 26; Mar. 5, 12, 19, 26) from 12:30 - 1:30 pm.  A preview session will be held Friday, Jan. 22 from 12:30-1:30 pm. Rev. Gemechisa Guja will lead a mission trip to Dembi Dollo, Ethiopia during January and February of 2010. Dormitories at 3 schools will be repaired and painted. If you would like to help by donating funds toward the paint or fixtures, please send your check to:  Eastminster Presbytery, Miss Irene Sams, Treasurer, 935 N. 12th St., Sebring, OH 44672. 1 gallon of paint is $15 and 1 fluorescent fixture is $15.

 

IRS Announces 2010 Standard Mileage Rates. Beginning on Jan. 1, 2010, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

50 cents per mile for business miles driven
16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

The new rates for business, medical and moving purposes are slightly lower than last year’s. The mileage rates for 2010 reflect generally lower transportation costs compared to a year ago.

Revenue Procedure 2009-54 contains additional details regarding the standard mileage rates.

 

CHRISTIAN FORMATION INFORMATION

Announcing!  Jill Reichert, Christian Educator at Wayside Presbyterian Church has accepted the Chair of the Christian Formation Division!  She will begin this work after the January 19th presbytery meeting.  We are delighted to have her enthusiasm in this leadership position!

 

POSITIONS AVAILABLE AND WANTED

Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lancaster is seeking a regular organist for accompanying the congregation for worship music and the choir for their anthems and practices. This position is specifically for the 10:30 traditional worship time using the organ predominately and piano for anthems. However, we have a new service beginning in January that is non-traditional and lends to the possibility of accompaniment if candidate is so interested.
